I purchased the upgrade for my GILL Mask. I've it. It seems like I can breathe much easier and knowing it is equivalent to an n95 mask, gives me piece of mind. It's very comfortable and I've already had people ask me where I purchased it from. If you want a mask you can feel totally safe in, I would buy one.

Thoughtful Upgrade Does the Job
The upgrade touches all the bases. Although the filters are now 'proprietary' and can only be bought from Gill, they are priced sensibly, and hopefully readily available for reorder when needed. The two main improvements to me, are consistency of the filters allowing for dependable N95 quality filtration. Second, the breathability has improved substantially. The pleated design of the new filters increase the airflow surface and reduced moisture retention, while still providing proper filtration. This is key, since if you can't breathe in a mask, you probably won't wear it. For long-term wear, the new Gill proves a bit front-heavy and bulky on the face and won't fit in your pocket, but when in situations requiring it (like in crowded, confined areas) it is a must. I have tried and tested dozens of masks since the pandemic started - most are in a box in a closet. The Gill is one of the top 3 that hangs by the door at the ready. It may not be a pocket friendly mask, but if performance is vital, it's a winner.

Love the Improved Surface Area
The upgrade kit is so worth it. The masks gives such a good seal that the previous filter hindered my air intake. The improved surface area makes the mask perfect for me :)

Upgrade kit - was it worth it?
Breathability was most obvious after applying the upgrade kit. It's not that the original mask filtration was bad, it's just that it does not cater to the user's need when performing chores. However, this changes with the upgrade kit and it's N95 grade filter.
The downside to the kit is the new silicone strap. I felt they are a pain to use as it's not as comfortable and easy to slide as the old strap. It makes adjustment of the mask a chore because the silicone makes movement difficult.
N95 filtration is good but users no longer can make use of medical grade filters like the original old mask. This makes costs of use of the mask higher since it works only with the proprietary N95 filters.
